A "Dunkirk" moment for Utah
Good News for Utah as Tech leaders source, order and receive eight million pieces of PPE Josh James, CEO at DOMO and Silicon Slopes with the help of Stance, Inc. co-founder, Taylor Shupe, sourced, ordered and has started to receive over eight million pieces of personal protective gear from China. Last week, state officials and tech leaders were on hand when the first plane full of PPE arrived at the Salt Lake International Airport. “State couldn’t get enough PPE, so I called everyone I knew and ordered eight million pieces for them. First shipment arrived in SLC via Delta airlines today! Suppliers with very high-quality products at a fraction of what some people are charging. More planes coming soon!” wrote James on his twitter. “I’m sure the state would have eventually figured this out, but no state was built with a supply chain to China. Me neither, but just thankfully knew a few people (Shupe) who have done this forever and who hustle and care about the state. Just really excited!” stated James. Shupe is fluent in the Mandarin language and resides in both China and the U.S. “Every state has struggled to find personal protective equipment for healthcare workers. Utahns responded with thousands of donations. And today, Josh James, Taylor Shupe, and Silicon Slopes brought the first of several planes filled with millions of items we need. A “Dunkirk” moment,” stated Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox on Twitter. The shipment, one of several arriving in the coming weeks, contains masks, gowns and other essential products. The equipment is coming directly from factories inspected by Chinese officials, according to Shupe. “Huge shout-out to Josh James for making this happen. This wouldn’t happen without his leadership, connections, and tireless effort,” said Clint Betts, executive director of Silicon Slopes, in a tweet. The supply that arrived Wednesday will be sent to hospitals, health departments, and public safety agencies first, state officials said. We appreciate GOOD people making things happen for Utahns. We love sharing the Good News.
